These are a few tips to keep your home healthy and dry:
-
If you’re thinking about re-shingling your home, consider that the
roof valleys see the most moisture and therefore deteriorate first
so insist on metal valleys, they are the most durable today; this
will prevent premature leaking and moisture getting into your attic,
your walls, ceilings and floors
-
Every so often inspect your attic armed with a flashlight to make
sure there isn’t any moisture or mold
-
Keep your eaves clean and free of debris, water can travel in many a
mysterious way
-
Have your downspouts drain away from the foundation walls of your
home, deflecting moisture away
-
Windowsills should be on a slight downward slant, to keep water away
from window openings; adding flashing could correct this problem
-
Take a walk around the exterior of your home, if necessary add soil
to grade away from your homes walls; this will help ensure a dry
basement
-
Invest in a dehumidifier for those humid summer days
-
If you can, avoid using your humidifier in the winter months
-
Keep furniture away from floor and wall vents to maximize air
circulation. Also use ceiling, wall or even portable fans, to
control humidity and air flow
-
Last but not least whether winter, spring, summer or fall; crack
open the windows every now and then to let the fresh air in – homes
have to breathe as well!
